Asian Visual Art and Performance Art

Some of the Asian arts that I made!

Five Nut Mooncakes with Oolong Tea

In honor of the Moon Festival (中秋节),I made some Mooncakes that have nuts in them! After I put them in the oven for the final cook, I seeped some Oolong tea in hot water. It truly brought the spirits all together!

Japanese Garden Kakigori  - Matcha, Red Bean, and Strawberry Compote

During the summer going into my freshman year, I worked at a kakigori event at a Japanese restaurant located in Central Florida called Kadence! This is just one of my favorites that I made. I assembled this dish by layering shaved ice, strawberry compote, and red bean paste. At the end I poured a small cup of a strawberry drink to pour on top of the dish. I had so much fun working at this event and can't wait for the next one!

Japanese Breakfast

I was working at Kadence in the morning and we made this gorgeous spread of Japanese delicacies for a breakfast seating! The spread included tamago (egg), sashimi, pickled vegetables, a bowl of white rice topped with a raw egg, and even more! Making this made me feel so hungry that I wish I was a customer!

Sakura Mochi

Today I made some Sakura Mochi! It was so much fun to roll the red bean paste with the small sakura flowers as a touch of saltiness. Then I wrapped mochi rice around it and placed it inside a perilla leaf. I could not stop looking at them because they were so beautiful! I also thought it was so cool to make a dish that I have seen in many Japanese shows and books.
