Education Robotics is an applied science engaged in the development of automated technical systems. It is based on such disciplines as electronics, mechanics, programming.
Robotics is one of the most important areas of scientific and technological progress, in which the problems of mechanics and new technologies are in contact with the problems of artificial intelligence.
Educational robotics is a tool that creates a solid foundation for systems thinking, integration of computer science, mathematics, physics, drawing, technology, natural sciences with the development of engineering creativity.
Robotics what is it?
Today there are different points of view on the problem of educational robotics.
Here are examples of some of them:
- “Robotics is something that can connect mechanical, power, computer parts (and the work of these specialists) together.”
- “Robotics is a universal tool of general education. It fits perfectly to additional education, extracurricular activities, and to teaching of school subjects. It is suitable for all ages – from preschoolers to students. And the use of robotics in the classroom is both training and technical creativity, which contributes to the education of active, enthusiastic people with engineering and design thinking.”
Until the 60s of the last century, this science, as well as robotics, was interpreted exclusively as history, to something unreal, coming out of science fiction. The term “robot” was coined by science fiction writers Karel Capek and his brother Joseph in 1921.
Field of robotics
The engineering and technical orientation of the use of educational robotics is a great opportunity for a child or student to show their knowledge in the field of engineering and technical thought by quickly creating designers using simple and complex engineering mechanisms and technical solutions.
There is a whole system of competitions in robotics at various levels: regional, interregional, national and international. This is a great incentive for self-development of creative thinking and maintaining interest in technical training.
Options for implementation of robotics in the educational process
In connection with the introduction of a new generation of standards, one of the possible options for changing the forms of organization of the modern educational process is the integration of robotics into it:
- course forms of work;
- forms of extracurricular activities;
- work in the system of additional education.
Robotics classes form special technical skills, develop accuracy, perseverance, organization, purposefulness.

The role of robotics in the educational process
In the educational process, robotics allows you to solve many problems: the development of fine motor skills in design, education of creative personality, logical thinking when writing flowcharts programs, learning programming languages, familiarization with modern technologies, the implementation of the initial stage of training of future specialists in the relevant industry. However, as practice shows, the organization of education faces difficulties, as the material base is not sufficiently provided. In some countries (especially in the third world) there is no material base at all, which in itself is a very sad fact.
Today, robotics has become a full-fledged academic discipline in some schools and universities. In many others, it is presented as an additional activity. There are also centres that specialize and conduct classes in this area.
